Ilocos Empanda Invades Quezon City

5 Dec

Having recently been from the North and acquiring a taste of the famous Ilocos Empanada,  it is no wonder that a couple of weeks of being back here in Manila, our tastebuds were searching for that yummy treat.  Our search led us to Empanada Nation on Scout Tuazon Street.

Since it was near our home, we decided to try it out right away.  Tucked in a corner of Roces Avenue and Scout Tuazon Street in Quezon City, Empanada Nation is a quaint restaurant that serves the famous Ilocos Empanada (the Laoag variety).   The front of the restaurant has glass panels where you order, pay and then, you can watch your orders being made and cooked in front of you.

We ordered the special empanada, where they put 1 egg and 1 longganisa in.  We dined al fresco and when our orders arrived, they were still hot – fresh from the pan! Oh it was so yummy!  Their empanadas are authentic Ilocos empanadas! The combined taste of vegetables (grated green papaya and bean sprouts), egg and longganisa were making our tastebuds dance!  To add to the burst of flavor, Sukang Iloco and Banana Ketchup are provided a plenty.  I personally prefer banana ketchup over the sukang iloko as I find the latter’s taste very strong.  They also offer several empanada varieties like the Double special (2 longganisa, 1 egg) and the Double Double (2 longganisa, 2 eggs).  I tried the Double Double after my special emapanada.  It was superb!

Special Empanadas from Empanada Nation! We brought some home, it was a hit!

Aside from the empanda, they also offer rice meals with famous Ilocos fares like Bagnet and  Longganisa.  And because the husbo was still hungry after his empanada, he ordered the King’s meal.  Now this is a winner!  The king’s meal includes 2 longganisa, Bagnet, KBL (sort of salsa made from tomato, shrimp paste and onions), 1 red salted egg and unlimited order of rice.  Truly a feast made for a king!

While eating, we noticed several cars pull up in front of Empanada Nation.  Majority of them didn’t sit down and eat but ordered empanadas to go and ate them in the car.  A testament of how good their empanadas are!

I am happy that Empanada Nation is just a jeepney ride away.  I can go back anytime and have a feast of my favorite Ilocos Empanada while watching traffic pass by.  I think I need to watch my weight too! LOL!

Empanada Nation is located on the corner of Scout Tuazon Street and Roces Avenue in Quezon City.  They are open from 8:00AM – 10:00PM Mondays to Fridays, and 10:00AM – 10:00PM Saturdays and Sundays.  Visit and like their Facebook Page for more information.
