The Connection – Time’s 2010 Person of the Year

17 Dec

“I can’t believe my aunt has a Facebook account!” I thought, while browsing through her pictures and wall posts.  I am stunned because she was never the techie type and I would never, in a million years, imagine seeing her online.  I am amazed at how this social networking site has connected me and my family, who are scattered all over the world, in just a click of a mouse button.

No wonder one of it’s founders, Mark Zuckerberg, was named Time’s 2010 Person of the Year.

“For connecting more than half a billion people and mapping the social relations among them, for creating a new system of exchanging information and for changing how we live our lives…”

This is why Time made it’s decision of choosing him as their Person of the year.  And rightly so!

Some 7 years ago, when he was a 19 year-old sophomore at Harvard, Mark, along with classmates Dustin MoskovitzEduardo Saverin, and Chris Hughes founded to build connections through social networks at colleges.  Now, Facebook – minus the the has become a worldwide phenomenon, and it’s founders, have become billionaires six times over, at least on paper.  Their idea is now building connections around the globe.
